SMOG-EATING Tile: Protecting Your Health and Our Environment!

Living in the Pacific Northwest you hear many people complaining about the rain, cloudy skies, and overall our pretty bipolar weather. However, you don’t hear many pacific northwesters complaining about “smog” like you would in say, Los Angeles. However, air pollution is all around us and air quality affects the publics health, our environment and overall our quality of life. It is estimated that 2.4 million people die annually world wide due to causes attributed to air population. (World Health Organization)

An Impeccable Solution

We all want to do our part to protect the environment and safeguard our health from negative effects of our air quality. That is why BORAL Roofing has designed a clay tile with just that purpose in mind.

BoralPure™ SMOG-EATING tile is the first tile in sustainable concrete roofing created that is designed to reduce the formation of smog. This revolutionary tile can be installed on both residential and commercial roofing projects. It is the only concrete tile roofing option in the U.S. that extenuates air pollution, all in the effort to protect our environment.

In the course of a year, 2,000 square feet of the SMOG-EATING Tile reduces the same amount of nitrogen oxide (which is a strong component of smog) that is produced by one car driving up to 10,800 miles, thus causing BoralPure™ SMOG-EATING Tile to be a critical key in solving the concern of air pollution and the health issues it causes.

Protect our environment, your home and your health!

The way in which this smog eating tile works is that there is a catalyst that is embedded into the upper portion of the roof tile. When it is exposed to sunlight the oxidation process speeds up and in return reduces nitrogen oxide. Nitrogen oxide can be produced during the burning of fossil fuels which is mainly caused by the driving vehicles. The SMOG-EATING Tile takes substances that are harmful to us and to our environment, and turns them into safe ones therefore protecting our quality of air. If you want to ensure your home is protected from environmental impacts but protects our environment at the same time, BORALPURE™ Smog Eating Tile is the roofing system for you!

Looking to enhance your home’s curb appeal? GAF has the shingle for you!

Guidelines to help enhance the look of your home, while increasing its value!

When it comes to one’s home, there are several aspects that can help to enhance its aesthetics. Having a beautiful and well maintained roof will not only enhance curb appeal, but it will help to increase your home’s value. According to Better Homes and Gardens, “Your roof can account for 40% of a homes curb appeal.” When taking on a new roofing project, ensure you have a desired perception of what you want your home to look like. In order to have a successful exterior look on your house, you must choose a color combination (of the house, and the roof) that will both accentuate and compliment one another. This article will be comparing two of GAF’s high quality shingles, their Timberline HD® shingle as well as their Timberline American Harvest® shingle. Before we compare the two here are some simple suggestions for making the best shingle selection, provided by GAF, North America’s largest roofing manufacturer:

Observe how much of your roof is visible from the street or common view.
A larger roof looks best in neutral tones. If the roof angle is normal or slight, you can use more colorful shingles or interesting patterns.

Use colors in the same color family as the body of your house for a simple, non-accented combination.
An example is a gray roof on a gray house, whether light or dark gray. Trim in white or black will keep it understated.

▪ Use bright or more colorful colors to make a design statement.
For example, a green roof on a red brick house or a red roof on a gray house.

Avoid using a heavily patterned roof on a home with several different colors in a brick or stone pattern.
This will appear too “busy”.

▪ And remember, follow your instinct.
Make sure to choose a style and color you are comfortable with, because you are the one who has to look at it everyday!

Don’t forget a very important factor: STYLE!

Not only is color an important factor when choosing a shingle for your home, style is something homeowners must take into consideration as well, here are few tips from

▪ Don’t compromise style for function
Most homeowners have two roofs in mind—the “dream”roof that fulfills their desire for a specific look, and the “practical” roof that is durable and cost-efficient. GAF’s state-of-the-art shingles satisfy both the heart and the head, offering a variety of colors and styles while providing peace of mind with a Lifetime ltd.warranty.

▪ Choose a shingle that complements your home’s architectural style
For example, for a Colonial home, select a shingle with a clean line that complements the home’s design. A Victorian house could take on a more colorful or complex design.

▪ The use of colors and textures can create a comfortable feel for your residence
For example, if focusing on the exterior of a Shingle Style home, adding color and textured design elements make the home much more approachable.
