4th of July Roof Fire Prevention

BBQs, picnics, vacations, fireworks, and roof maintenance.

Does it sound like one of those is out of place? Well it isn’t! In these hot summer months, Fireworks and Roof Maintanenceespecially this month, it is very important not to forget about your roof!  This summer is especially hot and dry, and fires are more likely to occur this week with fireworks going off all around us. Even if you don’t plan on using fireworks yourself this weekend, there is always going to be that wayward bottle rocket that could land just about anywhere. Below are some basic tips for keeping your home safe during this week’s festivities.

Clear debris from your roof and gutters.

Tacoma Roof InspectionThis should be part of your regular home maintenance, but this week, it is especially important. With temperatures soaring in the 80s and 90s here in Western Washington, leaves, branches, pine needles and debris are especially dry and flammable, and any small spark can set them ablaze. These tend to accumulate in the valleys and gutters of your home, so if you haven’t done it yet this summer, now would be an important time to clear those away. If you have already cleaned off your roof as a part of your regular maintenance routine, and you live near a lot of trees, it wouldn’t hurt to take a peak at your roof again this week.

Have a Safe Location to Light Off Fireworks

The safest option is to got to a professional fireworks display. You can have all the “oohs and awes” without any risk to your home. But if you do plan on lighting them off yourself, make sure you have a safe area to do it in. Make sure you are a safe distance away from homes or structures, trees, or flammable material such dry grass, or piles of wood. Just make sure you are aware of your surroundings and use common sense.

Have water on hand

Before the sun goes down and you start your show, having water on hand can help you quickly respond if a fire does occur. Have your garden hose attached, untangled and ready to go. Fill some buckets to have on standby in case of emergency, and have your fire extinguisher tested and on hand.

Dispose of Fireworks properly

Let everyone join in on the fun, just make sure that proper supervision and education is inKids with sparklers place, not only for the prevention of fires, but for safety from bodily harm as well. Sparkles, a favorite among the youngsters, can get very hot, and when dropped on the ground, can ignite with dry grass and debris. Burns can also occur when stepped on, and they are hard to see in the dark, so make sure to collect them from your youngster after it goes out. After your show, make sure to collect all fireworks that have been used, including the ones that didn’t go off, and soak them for at least one hour before disposing.

Chase NW Enacts A Beautiful Roof in Eatonville!

Here at Chase Construction North West Inc., we are passionate about roofing and are constantly doing projects that ignite this further. Just recently, we did a job in the beautiful city of Eatonville that utilized the popular trend of metal roofing. The property was a massive 132 square foot home on which we installed the ASC Skyline 26G 16” pencil ribbed standing seam metal roofing system in weathered copper. We exceeded homeowner expectations once again, as is the norm for our skillful and capable crew! To quote the homeowner- “Their crew was wonderful on site. They were on time, worked really hard, picked up their trash, raked for nails, they were friendly, and it was just a great group of hard workers. We really appreciated them.” We truly appreciate our crew as well, thank you for your dedication to excellence!!

Chase Construction North West Inc.

The Details

The Skyline system has a clean, wide pan look of integral standing seam panels, but comes at a lower cost. The unique design facilitates installation and saves time and money. Though here we used the 26G option, the system also comes in 12 and 16G, that all incorporate the energy efficient “Cool” Dura Tech® xl paint system. This paint system provides superior color retention as  well as excellent corrosion resistance. All Skyline Roofing panel assemblies are Class A Fire Rated when installed on non-combustible deck or framing, as was the case here. The ASC Skyline is a unique alternative to the traditional flat look and combines sleek sophistication with a shadow effect for added dimension. Additionally, the system reduces the appearance of unsightly oil canning that often plagues metal roofing. The homeowners were very pleased to have gotten exactly what they asked for and as a last remark stated “The job completed on time, as promised, and on budget. The roof looks beautiful, we got everything we payed for.” It was a pleasure developing not only professional, but also personal connections with these great clients and wonderful people. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to complete this grand and impressive project and thanks again to our crew for their impeccable work!!

Are Your Gutters Due for Repairs or A Replacement?

The roof on your home protects you from the elements, but the gutters protect the roofing system from detrimental water damage. Properly functioning gutters not only protect your roof, but also provide a key water management purpose that affects your siding and foundation from undue damage during stormy weather. In the perpetual rain of Washington, it is important to note that rain isn’t dispersed like when it hits your Gutter Chase Construction North West Inc.lawn, but it rather accumulates into a torrent at the edge of your roof. From there, if your gutters are old and not properly maintained, the water flows straight down into the home’s foundation, therefore saturating the soil and contributing to cracks in your foundation, or pools in and around the gutter, both of which cause the wood fascia to rot.

Signs your gutters may need replacing:

-Water isn’t draining

-Gutters are pulling away from the fascia

-Water is flowing over the sides of the gutters during a rainstorm, rather than flowing through the downspout

Stains, rust or peeling paint on your home’s siding

Water pooling in the grass below the gutters

A typical cause of such problems stems from undetected spike and farrows that have gotten loose or gone missing. These two facets of the gutter system are the traditional gutter fasteners that can cause the gutters to sag and leak if not properly attached. This commonly occurs because the spike and farrow were stuck through the fascia board Gutter Chase Construction North West Inc.instead of through the rafter tails. Attaching the spike and farrow through the fascia board is like putting a nail through a drywall, ineffective and asking for trouble. The solution to such problems is to call a contractor trained and experienced in such dealings and knows the ins and outs of gutter, roof, and foundation systems. Inspect your gutters today and get them repaired or replaced before it is too late Puget Sound!

The Ending Of A Thrilling U.S. Open Weekend!

US Open Chase Construction North West Inc.The city of University Place and the Chambers Bay Golf Course did not disappoint players or fans at this year’s exhilarating U.S. Open. The crowd was typical for a Washington sporting event and the cheersscreams, and good times were not in short supply. Our lead project manager, Joel, was lucky enough to attend the event, and his personal accounts as well the documentation of the happenings all over Puget Sound area businesses and restaurants, ensured nobody would be exempt from the festivities. Traffic and security were very well taken care of so the Open brought nothing but excitement and pride in our city for the residing fans of the small and beautiful University Place.

Spieth, 21, Comes out Victorious!

Coming out on top at the end of the weekend of valiant efforts from all participants, was 21 year old Jordan Spieth. The effort and likely endless practice time was well worth the reward as Spieth came out of the tournament 10 million dollars richer! The final moments before his big win had fans on the edge of their seats as Dustin Johnson needed to make one putt to win it all and the second to tie and mandate a playoff game the following day. However, after Johnson three-putted the last from 12 feet, Spieth reigned victorious at the biggest golf event of the year. In a touching acceptance speech, Spieth proclaimed he had wanted to hand his father the U.S. Open

Trophy his entire life and the concurrence of his win and Father’s Day provided him with the perfect opportunity. Spieth, who is on course to become the first ever player to win all four majors in one calendar year, is the youngest player to win the U.S. Open since Bobby Jones in 1923. Though the complaints of some players about the course being too difficult permeated throughout the tournament, those who performed well had even more pride in themselves knowing they completed such a tricky and challenging course. Congratulations to Spieth and all the players!!! Further congratulations to the city of University Place and the incredible amounts of successful efforts to put on such a huge event! The event brought much excitement to our small, quaint residence and the U.S. Open will be an integral part of our city’s history for many years to come!
