Once you begin to see roof leaks on your ceiling chances are the water has become pretty bad in spots you can’t see. We encourage all our Westchester NY customers to check their attic at least 4 times a year. As you discussed here wet inulation can be a primary tip off a homeowner can recognize on their roof. We also encourage an annual roofing inspection for a roofing expert that might be able to spot other signs such as poor flashing or cracked shingles. Stay dry!
Thanks for the great feedback. Our prayers and good will to you all on the East Coast.
Thanks for the great tips surely I guess I can fix the roof all by myself as long as I have the proper tools and the capability to do it and most importantly the tips that you have given. Good job!
Any tips on how to easily find the source of the leak? I cant seem to find it at my home.
The best way to find the leak is to get into the attic and follow the water migration stains. This is usually a sure way to get to the source or close to it.
Very good advice Chase. We recommend annual roof tune-ups to all our clients, both residential roofs and commercial. This helps as MCAS mentions above in getting a professionals eyes on the problem before it becomes a bigger issue for you.
What you mention though Chase is very true, fix the leak quickly and do not let it linger… It will cause you bigger and much more expensive issues down the road. Take this roof we did in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA for example. http://on.fb.me/1167Yeo
These guys never had outright water leaking into their home so they let the other signs go for almost 2 years. Flaking paint on the upper wall, staining appearing in the paint, etc. By the time they called us out we had to pullback several sections of their expensive tile roof and not only replace underlayment and sheeting, but support structures and insulation as well. They had MAJOR water damage and mold issues.
Thanks for the feedback. Sound wisdom from one of the industries best roofers in Cali.
This is some really valuable information from everybody. Thanks alot this info will really help out clients that are looking to get work done.
